Tom Crounse
George Adam Crounse – 24th Ind. Btty. N.Y. Lt. Arty.
George Adam Crounse was one of nine children born to Philip Henry Crounse and Elizabeth Ward. George was born on the 11th of December 1843, in Guilderland, N.Y. Henry married Elizabeth September 10,1835. The Reverend Adam Crounse (cousin of Henry) officiated at the wedding service. Henry passed away at the age of 76 on December 5, 1887.
George A. Crounse’s occupation in 1860 and 1861 was farming. He worked for different farmers in the vicinity of his fathers home. According to his work, he would at times receive his board at the place or at the farmers home, where he was working, then at other times he would board at his home with his parents. He spent his earnings for the support of his father and the family
George A. wed Susan Keasey on January 1, 1861., in or near Painted Post, New York. Susan was a residence of Brookfield, Tioga County, PA.
On November 21, 1861 he enlisted as a private in the N.Y. Lt. Arty., Btty. B, Rocket
Battalion at Albany, N.Y. The organization subsequently became the 24th Ind,. Btty., N.Y. Lt. Arty. on February 11, 1863. The 24th service consisted of actions at Rawle’s Hill, Kinston, Whitehall and Goldsboro in 1862. A short time after June 13th, 1863 the battery was reorganized. George A. was placed in the Second Section, Fourth Detachment and J.W. Merrill was his Sergeant. George’s enlistment ended December 31, 1863. Re-mustered on January 1, 1864. He was present at the siege of Plymouth, N.C. April 17-20., 1864. Was taken prisoner on April 20,1864 and transported to Andersonville, GA., called Camp Sumter by the Confederate camp guard. George died from dysentery and fever on June 21, 1864. He is buried the Andersonville National Cemetery. Grave #2273.

Crounse,George – Albany – was mustered in at Albany, on September or October 1861. His tent was always tidy and in order and his culinary skill unsurpassable. He was a good man at his post, at the piece, and showed coolness and bravery in battle.
He re-enlisted at Plymouth,N.C. , in January 1864. was taken prisoner at the Battle of Plymouth, He died at Andersonville Stockade on , June 20. 1864.
